Supporting Documents

Applicants may be requested to submit proof of eligibility with their application if their veteran is not a member of Melvin Roads. Such proof can vary, but a common document is the DD 214. It is issued by the U.S. government upon discharge from military service.

If you do not have a DD 214 here are some ways it can be obtained:

Request a DD 214 on-line

If you do not know the social security number, you may be able to obtain it on a death certificate.

You may also be able to obtain the DD 214 from the American Legion or the VFW Post where the veteran was a member.

You can bring the completed application to a meeting; give it to any
squadron officer; put it in our mailbox at the Post or mail it to the Post.

Membership Eligibility

Membership is open to all male desendants of veterans who served during
wartime (see dates below) and received an honorable discharge.

A Male Desendant includes: Son (biological or adopted), Grandson,
Greatgrandson (etc), step-son, step-grandson (etc). There is no age
requirement, many members are signed-up at birth and the oldest member
we know of is in his 70ies.

The Veteran can be the Father or the Mother.

The Veteran must be a member of the American Legion if they are alive
for their "sons" to be in the "SONS". If the veteran is deseased, but was in
the Legion or was eligible for the Legion, their "sons" can be in the "SONS".
