Dear Prospective Legionnaire:

Thank you for you interest about joining the ranks of the American Legion.

As you served your country you stepped up to make a difference in providing for the peace and security of our nation. Joining the American Legion is important as well, for as a veteran you can make a continued difference in so many important ways primarily now in your own community.

For example each local Post is there to provide experienced help in obtaining your full veteran's benefits when you need it-and that your family will get the assistance they need to secure the benefits they are entitled to as a veteran's dependents. Aware that thousands of young men and women serve our country each day in the uniformed services, we provide assistance to their families and themselves through such programs as the Wounded Warrior Project. Further, through the community-oriented programs of the Post, our fellow Americans are reminded of the importance of the rights of all persons to "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness."

And of course there is the camaraderie of joining in with other veterans at Post activities. At Melvin Roads, we have a very attractive lounge setting where you can meet with your friends and vets alike as our facility is open to the public.

As the Commander of Post 1231, I encourage you to complete the application and along with your DD214 and annual dues of $32.00, submit all to our membership chair. We look forward to your participation and active involvement in our programs.

Finally, on behalf of our Post and all the members of our community, thank you, once again, for your service to our country. As a community, we are better for your selfless courage.
